Not so-morning though, when I write this post.
Setiap kali aku ngeliat judul dari blog-ku, aku selalu tahu kalau setiap pagi mempunyai ceritanya sendiri. Cerita yang dimulai saat aku membuka mata dan menyulut sebatang rokok. Yang kemudian berlanjut saat aku menjejakkan kakiku keluar dan melihat ke langit itu, dan ditambah dengan hembusan angin pagi. Setiap pagi selalu memberiku pemikiran baru tentang arti hidupku.
Orang bilang, yesterday is history and tomorrow is a mystery. What matter the most is today.
Hari ini (harus) menjadi hari yang berbeda dari hari yang sebelumnya. Paling tidak hal itu yang aku tanamkan dari dulu. Karena aku berpikir, kalau hari ini sama saja dengan hari-hari sebelumnya, aku tentu tidak akan pernah sadar kesempatan apa yang Tuhan akan beri kepada aku di setiap detik-detik yang aku jalani. Seize the Day! Kata sang protagonis di film Dead Poet Society.
Sometimes I feel that every conversations lead into an argument. From the simple form of chit-chat to a deep talking with political or the global economic downturn issues have a every single aspect of being debatable. One party started the topic and the other party has an option to agree with it or set up the words against it. Realized or not, we are stucked in the world of linguistic uncertainties, where the best talker influencing the other.
Today’s world has changed. Recalling circa centuries back, whoever posseses the strongest forces wins. The power is all about defeating other nations, and collonialization is in every policy on the developed nations, leaving the collonialized remains the third world countries.
Nowadays by doing such a barbaric acts would leave them condemned and deemed as a country who has no respect to human rights. Evil as they might say. Take a look on America, with George W. Bush’s policy on Iraq, or maybe North Korea with its Nuclear Policy. They might be seen as inappropriate and against every nations’ dream of united peace.
The smart people never use forces nowadays. They use their brain. They don’t fight, they think. The beauty of argument and the skill of persuading people played a major role on how to win against the unseen ‘battle’. The Battle of winning the other people, by gaining the trusts. Obama had won these battles, as we can see his successful winning on becoming the 1stAfrican-American US president. Surely he had used his persuading and rhetorical skill well-done.
Now come to the thinking on how to win a people by a words, sure it’s not an easy task. Sometimes we have been faced with the certain difficulties on the linguistic skills such as inability to put the correct words, the failure to utter the sound reasoning, or maybe even poor grammatical uses that leads into ambiguity and unclear messages.
I have been facing all of these problems. And to be honest, I’m still facing it. But I still bear in my mind that somehow by improving my skill unto it, it will pay me off someday. I would recommend a great book for the people who had interest on it: How to Win Every Argument by Madsen Pirie. It explains you on every single fallacies are there and how to use it to tackle on every argument. It claimed that it could be dangerous weapon in wrong person’s hand.
Come to the end, I gratefully requests to all of my fellow friends to think. Think deeply on how to win your friends. How to win your enemies and how to win yourself by talking. Watching ‘Thank You For Smoking’ would be a great start.
